Jenny Holzer, a conceptual artist who represented the United States at the Venice Biennale in 1990, is known for her utilization of language as art. The opening piece in this book reads "It's a safe game to play with your nose, shutting off the air and letting it flow again. This pacifist text by Russell reads, "Since Adam and Eve ate the apple, man has never refrained from any folly of which he was capable." Franciszka Themerson contributed two charming line drawings, one to the encounter with Eve, the other a cartoon on men waging war. The final page is a photograph of the mushroom plume from explosion of an atomic bomb.
